Woody nightshade

Back to nature!  The rain has stopped (momentarily) so the time was right to pop out with the camera to see what was growing.  Pictured above is some woody nightshade, spotted growing on the dunes at Dawlish Warren this evening.  I only saw one nightshade plant out there during the walk.

It was good to get out and about in the fresh air again, and there was plenty to see, including evening primrose, cinnabar moth caterpillars, and several other plants I have yet to identify.  We had a nice long walk, out past the groyne where we were shooting a short film just a couple of weeks ago, and onwards to watch the terns diving for their supper.

More nature photos soon…

  1. Wow, how intense. I have never seen this flower before. I must look up Dawlish Warren. I would like to know its range.

Mmm, it was a lovely flower to see, much more vivid than a lot of the wildflowers around and about. Dawlish Warren is a great place to go for nature – birds especially, although they move too fast for me… I prefer the flowers cos they stay still! Just try to avoid the rip-off car park by going in the evening, or during the winter when the charges are much more sensible.

  3. After reading more of your blog, I realized you are in the British Isles somewhere. I am in the southeastern United States….Charlotte NC to be specific. I am glad to find your blog. It gives me a picture of what I will never see. Thank you.
