We were planning on going mackerel fishing yesterday, but the sea conditions were forecast as  moderate to rough so we decided to postpone.  Instead we packed up a picnic and took a long drive to Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre in Dorset, where I sponsor Tutti the chimpanzee.

In the spot where the allium did grow,
Today a man was out for a mow.
Backwards and forwards he slashed and he cut,
Quick as a flash, no time to shout ‘But…!’
Forget-me-not and scarlet pimpernel went,
Cut-grass is the only remaining scent.
Now all the wildflowers have gone,
I hope they grow back before too long.


Today’s snap is a flower which mesmerised me for days when I first saw it. The photo shows one flower in detail, but each single stem carries multiple mini-stems and these all have one totally gorgeous flower on the end of it. I counted up to 20 flowers on some of the stems. [...]
